Happy Easter!
Well, we're all just settling in after the road trip we had home to Guelph to visit family for the Easter weekend! It was a pretty busy weekend and the household consisted of 8 adults, 4 kids under the age of 3 and 5 dogs! lol. Missy was marvelous. She was a little anxious in the car - and preferred to lay in the middle console with her head resting on my arm. Here are a few photos ~
"Road trip!!!"
So many interesting smells! Don't worry - even though there was lots of goose poop I was a true lady and didn't try to roll in it like my foster sisters did!
Here we are taking a nice break - the weather was so fantastic and we did a lot of walking, running and playing outdoors!
Here I am with Lucy - I liked to follow her around because she would accidentally drop her cheerios and I was a good girl trying to clean them up behind her :)
Oopsie! I got busted with foster dad's gym socks!
Just hanging out with my foster sisters!
Roxy and I spent a lot of time in the fenced backyard chasing squirrels and bunnies.....we didn't catch any....but we sure tried.
Here I am watching the Masters with foster dad. I tried to stay awake - but I guess golf just isn't my thing :)
.......Cat-Nap!
Waiting patiently for someone to sit down so I can warm up your lap!!!!
Here I am saying hello to Josie and foster gramps!
Since it was such a busy house all weekend, foster mom was good to set our beds up in the office, that way we always had a quiet place to retreat to in case we needed to catch a few zzzzz's.....

Missy & Jersey!
Missy & our girl Jersey have become really good friends.
They had a pretty busy week keeping me company while I worked from home. Aren't they the cutest little Assistants anyone could ever ask for?!?
In case you're wondering, the two of them are watching a ladybug take a stroll across the floor! lol. Neither knew what on earth to do with it.
And here they are waiting for their cookie before bed (they do sleep in separate crates - but for some reason like to wait for their cookie in the same one!).

So far so great!
Well, Missy has only been in our home for a whopping 5 days. She has transitioned marvelously! She simply adores her walks - and gets so excited when you throw the ball for her to chase. While she will alert you when someone is at the door - she has been very quiet when we leave for work.
She is alone from about 7:45 to 1:00 (my husband comes home at lunch to give the dogs a potty break and a romp in the backyard) and then again from about 1:30-5:30. She stays in our office which is a pretty big room, with no problems to report at all.
I have included a cute little video of Roxy and Jersey (our dogs) trying to get her to play:
Here is also a cute clip that I thought I would include of a hilarious but quirky behaviour!! Missy will bring you one of her toys and nudge it on your lap -but will still keep the other part of the toy in her mouth. She desperately wants you to play "tug of war" with her - and when you do start tugging she makes the funniest noises! If she ends up winning the game, she proudly trots around with it in her mouth, but moments later she is flipping it back on your lap for more. Doesn't she sound ferocious? lol!
More pictures, videos and updates to come so please do check back on our one-eyed wonder!

Welcome Miss.America!
A warm welcome to our newest foster.....Miss. America (aka Missy!). Missy had originally been a gift for her previous family's 13 year old daughter. The family wanted to re-home her when the daughter had grown up and moved away to college. One of our great volunteers saw this sweet face on kijiji and brought her home!
Missy has now come to Ottawa to be our foster as her previous foster home stepped up to take in a bonded pair of chihuahuas. This weekend my sister came for a visit, along with her husband, their 1.5 year old daughter and their 3 year old chihuahua and they were able to provide transport for Missy right to our home, so that worked out very well.
When they arrived....there was Missy. Sitting on my sister's lap, head out the window, smilin' away.
Missy has a cute little figure....with a nice cream coat. She loves to be picked up and carried like a little diva.
She got along really well with my niece, Josie (who adored nothing more than to open and close the patio door to let the dogs "owside")
Pedra didn't really care to share that big bed, but it was a chilly weekend in Ottawa so Pedra "warmed-up" to the idea since Missy was helping to heat the bed!
It was a long weekend of walks and play and fun. Here she is taking a few zzz's - a great way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon! We'll be sure to keep you updated a few times a week so please check back!

Toys and Naps
This is how Milo spent most of the evening.....Roxy and Jersey were exhausted and wanted nothing to do with playtime. Milo decided to keep himself entertained with a nylabone and his tennis ball - switching intermittently of course! He just loves his chew toys - and definitely needs the durable kind :)
I've also included a cute little video below from the other day. All 3 were so tired from their romp at the park:

One Week!
Well, its been a week with Milo and we have got to say that he is such a fantastic dog. He is sweet, gentle and fun loving. He is a pleasure to foster. While of course Milo will stay with us as long as it takes to find him the most perfect home, we secretly hope that won't take a very long time, because we are falling so hard for this guy already!
When he isn't playing with his ball or chewing a nylabone you will find him in close proximity to you, either on his back or side. I should really count how many times in a day Milo stops and drops & hopes for a belly rub. LOL.
We've had some pretty chilly days in Ottawa. Milo enjoys the dog bed in front of our fireplace but is also pleased if he can snuggle in with Jersey.

Sit Pretty!
Milo has picked up a little trick from Roxy this week! Here he is "Sitting Pretty" - he gets less wobbley at it each day...lol. Check out the video below:
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Milo's personality and temperament are continuing to prove to be very sweet and excellent. He is a big suck and a true lover boy. He constantly rolls over for belly rubs and will swat at your arm if you dare think about stopping! He often comes to rest his head on our lap for pets too.
He is eating well - and for a beagle mix he has been selective on the types of treats he eats (usually beagles don't discriminate against anything edible - lol) so I find his occasional "pickiness" a little hilarious.
I've been holding his dish at meal time, and putting my hand right in while he eats - no problems there at all, no signs of guarding toys either. When Roxy and Jersey won't play with him - he loves to pick up his tennis ball, roll it with his nose and then chase after it. I will try to get a video of that to post here, because it is just so darn cute!
We've been out for a few walks now (which he LOVES) and while he does the typical nose-to-the-ground hound-thing he has good leash manners and only needs occasional corrections. Last night, we took the dogs to a fenced in area and let them run wild...oh Milo was just tickled with pure joy! It was so much fun to watch him run, chase, jump and play with Roxy and Jersey.
During the day we have been crating him while we are at work. He runs into his crate to get his piece of cheese and we don't hear a peep from him when we leave. When we come home though, his blankets are usually kicked to the back of his crate and he usually starts to bark with excitment when he can hear that we're home.
We leave for work around 7:45. Mike come home for lunch every day to give the dogs a potty break and a run in the backyard for about 30-40 minutes. Milo goes back into his crate until we're home from work around 5:30. We attempted to trial him out for a few hours and we came home to some accidents (which he NEVER does when we're home) so I think for now while he's settling and adjusting, when we're not home we'll continue to crate.
Since we crate him during the day, we don't think its fair to crate him during the night and there is absolutely no need to. He enjoys cuddling with us on the bed, but when the lights go out, he retreats to his dog bed (in our room) and sleeps the night away there with no issues at all. We have to wake the lazy-butt up in the morning - I think he would prefer to sleep in a little longer :)

Silly Faces
Gaaaaahhh! What a face! Milo is a confident man that is not afraid to show his emotions (clearly thoroughly enjoying every moment of his belly rub!)
He also has no problems telling you when he needs a hug :)
Milo loves to welcome you back if you've stepped out to do some errands. Here he is giving kisses to foster dad when he came back from grocery shopping (*ahem* please note that our first adopted furry, Roxy appreciates the "decoy" that Milo has caused and is going head first into the grocery bag - lol)

Welcome Milo!
We are pleased to announce the safe arrival of Milo today! Not only do I want to eat him because he reminds me of an oreo cookie - but he just has the sweetest personality and we can't wait to get to know him better so we can tell you all about him.
So far we know he is great in the car, takes treats like a gentleman, wags his tail when he's excited and appears to be cool, calm and confident. Milo was excellent when he was meeting our own two dogs (who can be very bossy and unwelcoming at times) and in fact, he has taken a special liking to Jersey, our Corgi/Dalmation mix.
"Oh my gosh! She kind of looks like ME!?!?" said Milo.
Milo had a bath this afternoon - he let me clean his ears and brush him with no trouble at all. Now he smells "sporty clean" and probably feels a lot better too! He has been eating and drinking well, and has been doing his business outside like a good boy.
Milo was originally estimated to be about 35 lbs - but we think he is more around the 40-45 lbs mark. He is a good, medium sized dog who appreciates pets and cuddling!
We'll write more soon.

Milo!
It's been awhile since we said good-bye to our summer fosters (Smokey & Pugsley) and due to changing work schedules we had to take a bit of a break - BUT we've decided that since things have settled down here....we'd like to kick off 2012 by opening up our home to another furry!
Milo is a handsome beagle/hound mix and was picked up as a stray in Mansfield Ohio early December 2011. When Animal Control found him wandering the streets he had a long chain attached to his collar. We congratulate Milo on his brave escape from chained-life (from Lord-knows-where) and even though he ended up a pound-pup for just over a month, we have promised Milo a brand new start in Canada where he will be a pampered, indoor pooch for the rest of his life!
Milo is scheduled for a "snip snip" (neuter!) and he'll be Ottawa-bound the weekend of January 13th. We've been told that he is very friendly, good with other dogs, keeps a very clean pen and loves walks. They estimate him to be approximately 3 years old.
Please stay tuned for more! To apply to adopt Milo please visit our website and complete an application at http://www.loyalrescue.com/.
