Aspen & Roxy
Okay! 1 second before this photo was taken I had two happy girls saying "cheese" for the camera! For those of you who are not familiar with our dog Roxy (yes, that's white fang on the left) she can really put our fosters through a marathon of "I'm the Boss" during their first week with us. Rest assured, she is all bark and no bite, but as you can see our sweet little Aspen takes this with great stride.
Anyways I've told Roxy she's seen too many Twilight movies so she has officially been cut-off :)
Aspen has been with us now for 5 days! I have nothing new to report on from what I've already talked about in her petfinder profile. She is a true lady and we love her more and more every day. I'll take a video this weekend and of course will be sure to update you after our vet appointment Saturday morning so please check back!

Welcome Aspen!
Animal control received a call about a dog that had given birth in an abandoned warehouse mid-November. When they arrived, they found sweet Aspen on a cold, cement slab surrounded by 9 puppies. All had died but one because poor Aspen wasn’t able to produce milk. Any momma dog that has had a litter would tell Aspen not to blame herself, because producing milk is a difficult thing to do when you are practically starving and malnourished yourself.
Her one surviving pup went to a local rescue since they happened to have a nursing momma who took on Aspen’s baby boy as her own. Aspen headed to a nearby shelter in Mansfield, OH where she waited for her very own family to find her. She waited….and waited….and waited some more. Even though plenty of families passed through the shelter none took interest in spending any time with the sweet little beagle mix waiting patiently in her kennel. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and poor Aspen was still a shelter orphan.
Maybe they noticed that she had just had a litter of pups and that didn’t appeal to them. Maybe people thought that as a black and tan beagle mix, her breed and her coloring were merely “ordinary”. Whatever their reasons were for passing her by, I am here to tell you that this dog is ANYTHING but ordinary. If she can only steal 5 minutes of your time, you will fall head of heels for her the way we have :)
Welcome to Ottawa Aspen! We're so happy to have you. A special thank you to Susan & her family for taking Aspen into their home and caring for her while she recovered from her spay and awaited transport.
Please check back. We promise to provide regular updates on this very special girl!

***Adoption Pending***
Jed is one VERY lucky boy this week because he officially has a forever home to call his own! His new mom and dad will be here on Saturday so we decided to pack early (since Jed did come with a bit of his own luggage!) As you can see, he is a little paranoid about being left behind and decided to watch me do some packing while he was IN the tote bag! lololol.
Jed says: "I am SO excited but packing sure is tiring!"

Lazy Sunday
Here is Jeddy, he is usually the first to arrive in the kitchen when he can hear me prepping breakfast!
Of course, the others join him within a matter of seconds!
Later on in the afternoon I found Jeddy in the window! Apparently he was nominated by our street's Neighbourhood Watch program :) A little video clip below.
And while I will give him an A for effort here....
I'm not entirely sure how pleased Neighbourhood Watch would be with "napping" on the job :)
I decided to take some time Sunday afternoon to give Jed a bath. With a white, curly coat it sure does require upkeep. Jed didn't loooove the bath, but he certainly didn't throw any sort of a fuss. After he got out and rubbed his face and body on every square inch of our carpet (lol) he sat very nicely while I brushed and used the dryer on him. I was more than impressed with his grooming manners!

"Wow Jed, you DO smell good!"
"Thanks Roxy! I think I LOOK good too!"
And just wait until Jeddy has his dental (which is booked for Wednesday)! Can we say....white on white!?
Unfortunately for Jed, Roxy & Buddy Sunday was much too cold for any sort of a walk (especially when booties are still on order!). With the windchill it was almost minus 30 out, so mini backyard potty breaks was all we were able to do. Booooo cold freeze!

Winter Walking at the Dog Park!
Jeddy loooves going for winter walks and he is very prepared for our cold, Ottawa weather with his very own, super cool, red & blue sporty jacket! The wind was extra gusty today so he asked us to put his hood up, just to be on the safe side.
"Hurry up mom & dad, I want to get walking!"
"Ooooo the park looks busy today!"
We've had him only one week, but he has been to the off leash dog park every day with absolutely no incidents to report at all. He is very calm and while he's not a "player" he certainly enjoys a good sniff and leisurely stroll with his canine friends. He doesn't care for the jumpy-energetic-in-your-face type of friends, we have seen him bark and politely back out of the situation :)
Jed hung back from the pack so that he could mix and mingle with Claudia the Scottish Terrier.
But Jeddy and Claudia quickly scurried when they saw a man in the distance handing out biscuits!
"Save some for us! We're coming!!!!!!"
Here is a little video of Jed being approached by some dogs at the park!

Jed says hello to Chloe & Snowy!
"Is it time to get leashed up and leave already?!"
And here is our crew within minutes of getting home! LOL

Broken Heart & Itchy Bum are On the Mend!
Jed has been with us now for 5 days and 6 nights. I would say his comfort level in our home has MUCH improved and he is settling nicely into our routine. Jed does adore being doted on, and loves to be picked up and carried ~ true to the trait of the bichon breed, he is loving and loyal with his humans. While he does have a hypo coat, it certainly requires upkeep and regular grooming to ensure he doesn't get matted. He surprisingly enjoys being brushed and I can do sensitive areas like his face and paws in particular without any incident.
He doesn't guard his food, or bones. He now knows to "sit" and "leave" his food until we say "ok" - I can also pet him, and put my hand in his dish while he eats with no problems at all.
The medication has much improved the hot spots around his bum and tail. He continues to wear his cone to ensure a proper recovery. I'm also happy to report that he cries less for his previous home every day. I think its safe to say that both his heart and bum are well on their way to feeling better!
This week has been a busy one, but I'm hoping to get some new photos and at least one video of Jed this weekend, so please check back!
